EEG

Description

Electroencephalography (short EEG) is a non-invasive procedure for measuring electrical currents which originate from potential differences in the extracellular space on the surface of the head. The EEG is the graphical representation of this electric activity. The measurement is risk and pain free.

There are 2 biosignal amplifiers of the model BrainAmp (Brain Products GmbH) with 64 channels in total in the EEG laboratory which can be used for measuring signals like EEG, EMG, EOG and evoked potentials. With the extension box BrainAmp ExG it is possible to add another 16 bipolar channels if needed. AG/AGCL sintered electrodes which are mounted on a cap (EASYCAP) are used for the measurement. Additionally, 64 actiCAP active electrodes are available. Impedances can be measured automatically via the recording software of BrainVision.

Futher equipment

  • Localisationssystem:
    • Localite TMS Navigator: The Localite TMS Navigator is a navigation system for transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). With this system you can plan stimulation areas and monitor and record the correct positioning of patient and coil.
    • Localite EEG PinPoint: The Localite EEG PinPoint is based on optical tracking and offers the possibility to acquire EEG or NIRS positions easily and with highest accuracy.

Software

  • Brain Vision Analyzer (Brain Products GmbH)
  • MATLAB (The MathWorks)
  • PsychoPy (Open Science Tools Ltd.)
  • Presentation (Neurobehavioral Systems)
  • E-Prime (Psychology Software Tools, Inc.)

Measuring cabin

The measurement takes place in a cabin which is shielded from noise and electromagnetism designed by Soundblocker.
